Car = Womb?...

There's nothing to compare to a couple of midterms if you seek to drive your mind a little bit insane. I had two in the past two days, but there was only one that really pushed me over the edge: philosophic history. It was the greatest exercise of bullshitting known to man. More than one student left that test on the edge of tears and many more left laughing maniacally and whispering "The horror! The horror!" to themselves and any poor sod who happened to pass by. In case you were wondering, one of the bigger questions in the test had to do with the analysis of "The Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. Never had metaphors needed to be perverted to fit convoluted ideas than in that test. I mean, how could anyone refer to Marlow's interest in Kurtz as erotic in an Oedipus-like way (yeah, some of us were really stretching for theories towards the end)?

The point is, that waaaaaaaaaay after the test my mind was still looking for metaphors even in the real world. In fact, I was so knackered after the test that I didn't immediately drive home and tried to catch a couple of z's in the car. As I cranked down the seat I wondered whether a car was symbolic of man's need to return to the womb. Enclosed in all that plastic and metal with the sound of the rain beating down on the roof it seemed easy enough to imagine it in that light. An inorganic womb. Man, I really need to get more sleep...

Rumoku out!
