Mummies sucking my soul from my @$$...
Yeah, anyway, I haven't been writing this whole week because I couldn't log on to my account. That's right, I can't get on to my account. For some strange reason, I can't seem to log into IMA! Nooooooooooooooo! So, after a whole week of being a persona non grata in the blogger world, I come back and find...that I have nothing to talk about. Except for Spiderman2 and The Chronicles of Riddick. I loved both of the previous movies (Spiderman and Pitch Black) and am currently waiting with bated breath to watch the sequels. Unfortunately, my sister has already watched them. She has just arrived from the US for some sort of training seminar of some sort. Forgot to ask for details. Anyway, the point is, I now REALLY hafta watch the sequels just so that I won't have to see her knowing smirk each time we start talking about movies. Grrrr...she's pure EVIL I tell ya!
In other movie news I finally got my grubby hands on Zatoichi, Bubba-Hotep and Kuroshiya Ichi (a.k.a. Ichi the Killer). Kuroshiya Ichi wasn't all that I had hoped that it would be. True, I had never seen any of Takeshi Mike's previous works, but I was suitably disturbed by the Kuroshiya Ichi trailer that I thought (mistakenly) that it would be fun to watch. I should have known better (since Quentin Tarantino cited Mike as one of his cinematographic "mentors"). It wasn't a load of crap...but it wasn't that great either. I couldn't help but draw parallels between Mike's and Tarantino's fascination with FAKE LOOKING FIGHT SCENES! What's up with that? Blood should look real, dammit!
Alternatively, Bubba-Hotep was, in a word, disappointing. It didn't have the manic energy that I expected from something that had Bruce Campbell in it. I still thought that the storyline was funny...but ultimately unsatisfying. Meh, whatever...
Now, Zatoichi on the other hand was a completely different bag of chips. Heck, it may be the chip king (whatever that means)! This was truly a fun movie. Takeshi Kitano was really cool as the Mysterious Blind Swordsman (Zatoichi) and the rest of the cast were good in their roles as well. The fight scenes were something else. Tarantino should have taken lessons from this guy instead of Mike. My God, those fights were beautiful! If you blinked you'd have missed them! My eyes didn't close to the duration of the film and are now crusty and pus ridden...but it was completely worth it. Watch it if you have the chance!
My next movie conquests would probably be The Grave of Fireflies and Spirited Away. Yes, both are "cartoons"...if you're a neophyte. I've already seen spirited away and it puts alot of "serious movies" to shame. The sheer beauty of the animation still takes my breath away. The animation reminds me of how Disney used to be...before they let Eisner get in the way. I would have already watched The Grave of Fireflies but I lent it to my friend and he's still weeping over what happened and refuses to give it back until he can deal with his issues. Gah.
All in all, I have a full weekend ahead of me...so I'm starting the weekend today. Peace Out...rock and roll your mole and all that.
